A joint operation of the Servei de Vigilància Duanera and the Guàrdia Civil has allowed to dismantle an alleged criminal group dedicated to drug trafficking in the province of Girona. The action has resulted in four detainees and the seizure of hashish, marijuana, weapons, ammunition and cash in several municipalities of Girona.
The arrested are four men between 52 and 63 years old, of Dutch nationality in two cases, in addition to a Spanish citizen and another Romanian. All of them are provisionally attributed crimes of belonging to a criminal group, against public health, smuggling, and illegal possession of firearms.
Investigation open after a controlled delivery
The investigation began in August 2025, following a controlled delivery of 65.5 kilos of marijuana hidden in paint cans from Thailand. From that point, investigators focused on the activity of a network that allegedly used logistical structures to move the drug from Girona abroad.
The organization, always under investigation, used pallets with false bottoms to send the narcotic substance to Holland. Those same pallets would later return empty with the intention of being reused, a system that would have allowed maintaining the transport circuit without raising suspicions.
Searches in La Pera, Sils, Blanes and Lloret de Mar
The operation culminated on March 17 with six entries and searches in four homes and two industrial warehouses located in La Pera, Sils, Blanes and Lloret de Mar. In these properties, agents located prepared drugs and various materials allegedly linked to the group's activity.
In total, 221 kilos of hashish and 86.5 kilos of marijuana were seized, in addition to two loaded revolvers, 180 metallic ammunition cartridges and 13,780 euros in cash. The presence of firearms has reinforced one of the penal lines opened within the cause.
Provisional prison for the four detainees
After being brought before the court, the Court of First Instance number 1 of Santa Coloma de Farners decreed the provisional imprisonment for the four arrested individuals. The case remains open while the documentation and the material seized during the searches are analyzed to specify the scope of the alleged operation in the Girona demarcation.
