The railway circulation on the sections of lines R3 between Vic and Ripoll and R11 between Figueres and Portbou, which had been preventively cut off due to the wind storm, was reestablished this Sunday afternoon after several hours of interruption.
Progressive reopening during the afternoon
In the case of the R3, Renfe recovered the service between Vic and Ripoll around five in the afternoon. It also reopened the R11 section between Figueres and Portbou, although in this corridor the alternative road service is maintained despite the return of railway traffic.
The disruption had extended a few more hours than initially planned. The closure in both sections had been announced on Saturday for safety reasons given the forecast of strong gusts of wind.
Preventive measures for the wind episode
The suspension of the service was part of the measures adopted during the meteorological episode that affected several regions in the north and interior of Catalonia. Civil Protection sent an alert on Saturday to the mobile phones of residents in regions such as Alt Empordà, Berguedà, Garrotxa and Ripollès, among other areas, due to the forecast of intense wind.
With the reopening of these sections, rail traffic recovers normality in two especially sensitive points of the network, although in the section between Figueres and Portbou the road reinforcement remains active while the return to usual service is consolidated.
