A cyclist was injured on Tuesday, May 19, around 4:45 PM on the passeig dels Països Catalans in Salt, after trying to avoid a pedestrian who had the right of way. Five students from the Health Emergencies training program at the Institut Narcís Xifra in Girona attended to him at the scene until the SEM arrived.
The accident also left a second relevant element at the scene. Municipal sources indicated that the bicycle was not in good condition and that the brakes were not working correctly, a circumstance that contributed to the accident in a maneuver where the cyclist tried to avoid the pedestrian.
Five students immobilized the injured person until the SEM arrived
Abraham, Salvador, Andreu, Sebastià, and Albert, students of the Health Emergencies program, applied the knowledge acquired in class to provide first aid to the cyclist. The five young people immobilized him at the accident site and maintained assistance until the emergency services arrived.
Afterwards, the SEM transferred the victim to the Josep Trueta Hospital in Girona. No information has been released about his health status so far.
The Salt City Council congratulated the group and the Institut Narcís Xifra
Following the intervention, the Salt City Council and the Local Police congratulated the students for their actions. In that recognition, they highlighted their "serenity, preparation, and public service vocation," as well as their response capacity in a public road emergency.
The congratulations also extended to the Institut Narcís Xifra in Girona, to which the council addressed through social media. The message focused on the training of future health professionals who participated in the initial care of the injured person.
