Two men were arrested this Thursday afternoon on l'Argenteria street, in Girona's Barri Vell, in a joint operation by the Municipal Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra that also resulted in one person reported and five officers injured.

The intervention started around 7:45 p.m., when the Municipal Police received a notice to go to this point in the old town because four people were causing disturbances and generating insecurity in the area. When the officers approached to identify them, one of the men started shouting, became very agitated and reacted violently.

An intervention with ARRO support in the heart of Barri Vell

During the operation, ARRO agents of the Mossos d'Esquadra of Girona, who were in the area, also intervened. According to the police account, the first arrested person spat at a corporal, was subdued, and even bit the same officer on the elbow.

The police maintain that the man continued very agitated and self-harmed by hitting himself against the floor with his head and nose until he bled. They also attribute to him having thrown blood and spat against that same officer. Already handcuffed and restrained by three police officers, he would have damaged the watch of one of them, reason for which he is also charged with a crime of damages.

The situation continued inside the Mossos police vehicle, where he allegedly remained agitated and bit and spat at officers again. The detainee, 36 years old, was arrested for alleged assault against agents of authority, resistance, disobedience, and damages. According to police information, there were no prior records.

Five agents attended to and a second arrest

As a consequence of the intervention, four Mossos d"Esquadra officers needed medical assistance. Added to them is an officer of the Girona Municipal Police who was also injured, bringing the total number of injured police officers to five.

While the operation was unfolding, another of those present tried to hinder the action and disobeyed the instructions of the Municipal Police, for which he was reported. Shortly after, a second man, 26 years old, was arrested upon disobeying again when he was trying to prevent the arrest of the first one.

According to the police version, when the agents tried to detain him, he hit a municipal police officer in the arm and caused him injuries. This second man was arrested for alleged resistance, disobedience and assault against agents of authority. He also had no police record until now.

The proceedings pass into the hands of the Mossos

The Mossos d"Esquadra have taken charge of the proceedings and it is expected that the two detainees will appear before the court this Friday. Police sources indicate that all those involved are foreigners and that they had been moving around the Barri Vell of Girona for a few days, where they would have engaged in uncivil behavior.
