The security forces and bodies investigated in 2025 a total of 393 reports of disappearance in the province of Girona, a figure that placed the territory as the third Catalan province with the most cases, behind Barcelona and Tarragona, and ahead of Lleida.
Of the total registered in Girona, 321 reports corresponded to adults and 72 to minors. In the distribution by sexes, 266 affected men and 127 women. Among the disappeared adults there were 233 men and 88 women, while among the minors there were 39 girls and 33 boys.
Girona, among the provinces with most cases of adults
Girona was the eighth province in Spain with the most reports of adult disappearances in 2025, with 321 cases. It was only behind Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Malaga, Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and Seville.
In the global count, the province was in 18th state position with 393 complaints. Within Catalonia, Barcelona topped the registry with 2,459 complaints, followed by Tarragona with 446. Girona was in third place and Lleida closed the Catalan classification with 266.
Catalonia ended 2025 with 3,564 reports of disappearance, the second highest figure of the State by communities, only surpassed by Madrid.
Lower weight of minors' cases in Girona
The weight of child disappearances in Girona was 18.3% during 2025, below the behavior observed in the whole of the State. At a Spanish level, reports affecting minors between 13 and 17 years old represented 59.1% of the total.
Throughout Spain, the security forces investigated 25,086 reports of disappearance in 2025, 5% less than the previous year. Those reports corresponded to 16,024 people.
The annual balance also reflects that 11,461 cases were linked to citizens with a single episode of disappearance. The rest corresponded to repeat offenders, with an average of three reports per individual.
Seventy complaints remained active at the close of the year
As of December 31, 2025, in the province of Girona there were 70 active missing person reports, corresponding to people who had not yet been located. That volume placed Girona in 22nd state position by number of open cases at the close of the fiscal year.
Of those 70 active complaints, 54 corresponded to men and 16 to women. By age, 65 were adults and 5 minors. Among the adults pending location were 53 men and 12 women.
Across Spain, the number of active complaints amounted to 6,874 at the end of 2025. The state clarification rate was 90.7% and more than 54% of cases were resolved in the first three days, a fact that reflects the rapid evolution of a good part of these investigations.
