The strong winds this Sunday are causing incidents in Castell d"Aro, Platja d"Aro and s"Agaró, with fallen trees and branches, damaged urban furniture, displaced containers, affected exterior elements and some broken glass shop windows in businesses. The City Council has activated on-site operations with Firefighters, the Local Police, the municipal brigade and the ADF.
For now, the consistory has not been able to specify a global balance of damages nor a closed count of incidents. The municipal services continue reviewing the affectations and working to offer a more detailed assessment of the destruction as the day progresses.
Baix Empordà, among the most affected areas
The wind episode keeps a good part of the Catalan northeast on alert. Meteocat maintains this Sunday warnings of dangerous meteorological situation due to wind and places the Baix Empordà among the counties at risk. In Alt Empordà, furthermore, it sets higher gust thresholds than in the rest of the counties.
The forecast points to widespread winds throughout the day, with greater intensity in the north. Already this Saturday, Civil Protection sent an ES Alert alert to six counties to ask that outdoor activities be avoided due to the strong wind. The warning was directed to Alt Empordà, Ripollès, Berguedà, Garrotxa, Solsonès and the north of Cerdanya.
More than 300 calls to 112 during the morning
Until 11:00 hours, the emergency phone 112 had received 376 calls related to the strong wind, which have generated 258 reports. Baix Empordà concentrates 39.55% of the communications, while from Alt Empordà come 20.62%. Berguedà adds 13.56% of the notices.
In the 10:00 AM update, the municipalities with the most registered incidents were Castell Platja d"Aro with 21, l"Escala with 14 and Palamós with 12. The situation remains open and emergency services continue attending to calls in different parts of the territory.
In the case of Castell d"Aro, Platja d"Aro and s"Agaró, municipal monitoring continues while the most intense gusts last. The immediate objective is to remove fallen elements, secure affected areas and assess damages that are not yet closed.
