The Firefighters extinguished in the early hours a fire in an apartment of a five-story building on Santander street, in the Sant Narcís neighborhood of Girona, a fire that forced to evacuate a man from a balcony and to preventively evacuate 35 residents of the building.

The alert was received around 3:30 hours and nine fire brigades were dispatched to the area. When they arrived, they found the fire fully developed in the affected home. Personnel from the Girona Municipal Police and the Mossos d'Esquadra also participated in the operation.

An injured person transferred to Josep Trueta hospital

During the intervention, a man had to be evacuated from a balcony by the Firefighters due to the smoke and the intensity of the fire. The SEM attended to him on site and transferred him in a less serious condition to the Josep Trueta hospital in Girona.

The health device mobilized four ambulances.

Eviction from the building and confinement in nearby properties

While the extinction tasks lasted, 35 residents of the building were preventively evacuated. Once the situation was controlled, all were able to return to their homes.

Additionally, the temporary confinement of the residents of the houses and apartments located on both sides of the affected building was ordered to avoid risks from the smoke.

Open investigation into the origin of the fire

The causes of the fire are under investigation.
