The Mossos d'Esquadra have reported administratively the alleged organizer of clandestine races in Lleida and 32 participating drivers for traffic infractions, in an investigation that remains open and that focuses on gatherings detected in industrial estates of Segrià and Pla d"Urgell.

The operation began in the middle of last year, when agents of the Traffic Investigation and Documentation Group detected on social media several calls from groups of vehicle enthusiasts to meet in industrial areas of the demarcation. In those messages, the meeting area was announced, although the exact location was not specified until the last moment.

According to the Catalan police, most of these gatherings were held at night and brought together numerous people, also displaced from other parts of Catalonia and Spain. In them, they carried out parallel races, repeated drifts and other dangerous maneuvers.

A call located in Alcarràs

On November 1, the Mossos located in advance one of these gatherings in an industrial estate in the municipality of Alcarràs. Plainclothes officers went to the scene and were able to confirm the illegal activities on site.

During the operation, investigators identified a young man who, allegedly, had created the call on social media and coordinated the acceleration races. The Mossos later determined the identity of both the drivers involved and the alleged organizer, who did not have the relevant authorization.

Fines, loss of points and a criminal complaint

The 32 drivers reported were for reckless driving, an infraction sanctioned with 500 euros and the loss of 6 points from the driving license.

Furthermore, one of the drivers has been criminally charged for driving a vehicle with the license in a situation of loss of validity due to total loss of points.

The investigation remains open. The Traffic Investigation and Documentation Group maintains active monitoring of social networks with the aim of detecting new calls and identifying profiles of alleged organizers.
