The emergency services mobilized this Friday morning due to a fire in the building on Ferran Puig round in Girona, a property occupied since August 2024. The call to 112 came in around 10:15 AM and the fire was located on the third floor of the block.
Firefighters of the Generalitat activated three units to the scene. The flames affected furniture located on the third floor and the fire could be declared extinguished in fifteen minutes. There were no injuries, although it was necessary to evacuate six people, according to municipal sources.
Police deployment on Ferran Puig ring road
The incident also caused a large deployment in the area with agents from the Girona Municipal Police and patrols of the Mossos d'Esquadra. Part of the Catalan police forces that went to the building were returning from intervening in another fire declared shortly before in the city.
That same Friday, at approximately 9:15 hours, another fire had originated in the old Simon factory in Girona, located on the Barcelona road. Later, at 9:45 hours, residents from the area around the Ferran Puig ring road claimed to have seen how a glass object was thrown onto the street from the occupied building.
A block with a history of incidents
The property on Ferran Puig avenue was occupied in August 2024 and, since then, residents of the area have been reporting problems of coexistence and sanitation. Among the complaints are noises, alleged drug trafficking, incidents with water and electricity services, and the presence of a broken sewage pipe.
The block has registered other incidents in recent times, among them more fires. This Friday's fire, concentrated on the third floor, resulted in no personal injuries, although it once again activated emergency services in a building that already has a recent history of problems.
