The Local Police of Castell d"Aro, Platja d"Aro and S"Agaró has reported the arrest of a woman for her alleged participation in a theft by deception committed in Platja d"Aro and in three fraudulent money withdrawals made afterwards with the victim's mobile phone. The events date back to February 25 in the public car park of a commercial establishment in the municipality.

The victim suffered the theft of her handbag while she was in the parking area. The investigation points to the coordinated action of two women. One of them entertained the victim with questions to divert her attention, while the other opened the passenger seat door and took the bag.

A theft with distraction in the car park

The Local Police link this case with what is known as the sowing method, a technique based on causing an apparently harmless distraction to steal personal items. It is a system that usually repeats itself in parking lots, commercial areas, and leisure spaces, where the victim lowers their guard for a few seconds.

In this case, the proceedings of the Urban Crime Group concluded that, after the theft, the perpetrators would have used the stolen mobile phone to impersonate the victim before their bank. With that procedure, they made three withdrawals of 1,000 euros from ATMs, reaching a total of 3,000 euros fraudulently withdrawn.

The cameras allowed to follow the track of the vehicle

The analysis of the surveillance cameras of the municipality and of the commercial establishment allowed to identify the vehicle used in the events. From that location, the agents were able to determine who its usual occupants were.

Subsequently, the victim recognized the people identified by the police. The efforts made with the banking entity finished bolstering the investigation by confirming that one of those people had directly participated in the fraudulent withdrawals.

Arrested in Sant Boi de Llobregat

Once the police proceedings were closed, the Local Police requested the collaboration of the Mossos d"Esquadra. Last March 25, Mossos officers from Sant Boi de Llobregat located and arrested the alleged main perpetrator of the events.

In its statement, the Local Police recalls the importance of not losing sight of bags, mobile phones or valuable objects and asks to exercise extreme caution when an unknown person tries to start a conversation or create a distracting situation next to the vehicle. The municipal body frames this action within an already open line of investigation, as it is the second case resolved in 2026 by the Urban Crime Group with this same modus operandi. In a previous episode, which occurred on January 16, the investigation ended with the arrest of one of the alleged perpetrators at Madrid Barajas airport, just before he left Spain.
