The Generalitat Firefighters carried out 27 call-outs for vegetation fires during the wind episode between 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, on a day marked by the dispersion of fires in different parts of the country and with a special incidence in the regions of Girona.
The majority of the operations concentrated precisely in that area, where 8 services, 30% of the total, were counted. Next were located the Terres de l"Ebre and the north of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, with 5 interventions in each area. In the Camp de Tarragona 4 services were registered, while in Central Catalonia there were 3 and in Ponent, 2.
Three forest fires among the actions
Of the total number of calls attended during this wind episode, three were forest fires. One of them affected one hectare in Ripoll, in the Ripollès region. Another burned 2,500 m² in Camprodon, also in Ripollès. The third incinerated 400 m² in Blanes, in La Selva.
The balance reflects an activity distributed across several points of Catalonia in a context of adverse weather, with the wind as a risk factor for the propagation of the flames in vegetation areas.
Active alert for wind
While the Ventcat plan alert remains active, the Rural Agents have asked for prudence. The recommendation is maintained given the persistence of conditions that can favor new fires, especially in forest and agricultural environments exposed to wind gusts.
The emergency services maintain vigilance over the evolution of the episode, after a period of less than 24 hours in which call-outs due to vegetation fires have multiplied in several Catalan regions.
