The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya has activated this Wednesday a red alert for violent weather in Ripollès due to a storm accompanied by hail and strong gusts of wind. The episode will remain, at least, until 7:00 p.m.

At the same time, orange level warnings have been activated in Berguedà and Garrotxa due to intense rains with electrical storm. The situation affects again regions of the Pirineo and the Prepirineo, where several episodes of instability have already been chained in recent days.

Third consecutive day of warnings for violent weather

This is the third consecutive day with warnings for violent weather in this area of the Catalan territory. Red warnings were already activated on Monday in Garrotxa, Berguedà, Bages and Osona. On Tuesday they were again decreed in Berguedà and this Wednesday the focus of greatest risk is located in Ripollès.

Protecció Civil has asked to exercise extreme caution while the episode lasts and has called for caution in travel and outdoor activities. The recommendation comes in a context of locally intense storms with the capacity to discharge with force in little time.

Intense rainfall in Berguedà

One of the most notable records has occurred at the Gisclareny station, in Berguedà, where 26.6 liters per square meter in 30 minutes have accumulated. The data reflects the intensity of rainfall that continues to affect several counties in northern Cataluña.

The evolution of the storm keeps Ripollès under special surveillance, while Berguedà and Garrotxa continue at orange level. The episode once again puts the focus on a week marked by adverse meteorology in the Pyrenees and the Pre-Pyrenees.
