A 54-year-old woman has died after a head-on collision between a car and a truck on kilometer 60.6 of the N 260, at the height of Maià de Montcal, in La Garrotxa, in the direction of Figueres. The accident occurred this Friday at 5:12 p.m. and keeps the road closed while work is underway to remove the heavy vehicle, which overturned.
The victim is S.M.M., a resident of Castellfollit de la Roca. She was evacuated by medical helicopter to the Hospital Universitari de Girona Doctor Josep Trueta in critical condition, but died shortly after. The truck driver, for his part, was treated by the Sistema d"Emergències Mèdiques in mild condition.
Open investigation into the crash
The causes of the head-on collision are under investigation. The Mossos d"Esquadra have taken charge of the proceedings to clarify how the accident occurred on this stretch of the N 260.
In the operation, four patrols of the Mossos d"Esquadra, a medicalized helicopter, two SEM units, and six crews of the Bombers de la Generalitat intervened. The emergency teams worked on the care of the victims and the safety of the area.
The road remains closed
The Firefighters stabilized the overturned truck and stopped a diesel leak detected after the impact. The N 260 remains closed to allow the removal of the truck, an operation that continues to condition traffic at this point of La Garrotxa's road network.
With this victim, there are already 24 people deceased this year on Catalan roads, according to the provisional data available.
