A Civil Guard checkpoint on the AP-7 highway near La Jonquera led to the seizure of 14.6 kilos of hashish hidden in the hold of a regular bus service traveling between Barcelona and Rennes, France.
Intervention in a service area of La Jonquera
The police action occurred on the morning of Monday, February 16, during an operational deployment in a service area near the border. The check is part of border surveillance actions to combat drug trafficking in the northern area of the province of Girona.
During the baggage inspection, agents located a suitcase that contained the narcotic substance. The drug was distributed in packages and hidden among personal belongings. The Guardia Civil opened an investigation to identify the owner of the seized suitcase.
One detainee and the investigation continues
As a result of the operation, the Civil Guard arrested a 31-year-old man of French nationality as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health for drug trafficking. The arrested person has been placed at the disposal of the Court of Instruction number 1 of La Jonquera, where the corresponding judicial measures will be determined.
The investigation remains open to clarify the origin and final destination of the seized drug. The agents do not rule out further actions within the framework of border controls on the AP-7.
