Civil Protection will send an ES Alert message to mobile phones this afternoon due to risk of intense wind in several counties in northern Catalonia. The warning will affect Alt Empordà, Berguedà, Ripollès and the northern half of Cerdanya, given a forecast of gusts that may exceed 140 km/h.
According to the forecast conveyed by the agency, the episode will begin at seven in the morning on Sunday and will last until four in the afternoon. The deputy director of Civil Protection, Imma Solé, has confirmed both the arrival of this episode and the sending of the warning to the population.
Alert on mobiles in four counties
The ES Alert system will be activated this afternoon to warn residents of the areas with the greatest expected impact. The objective is to reinforce preventive information before the start of the wind storm scheduled for Sunday.
The counties included in the dispatch are Alt Empordà, Berguedà, Ripollès and the northern half of Cerdanya. Civil Protection has asked that travel be limited and that outdoor activities be avoided in these areas while the episode lasts.
Request for prudence on the road and outdoors
Imma Solé has called for special caution to the population and has insisted on reducing mobility in the affected areas. She has also launched a specific message for those who have to drive.
"Much vigilance" - Imma Solé, deputy director of Civil Protection
The recommendation focuses on avoiding unnecessary movements and maximizing attention at the wheel during the hours of greatest wind intensity.
Bad sea forecast on the Costa Brava
The episode will not be limited to the interior and the Pyrenees. Bad sea is also expected in Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà, where the state of the sea can become significantly complicated during the day.
On the coast of Alt Empordà and Baix Empordà, waves of more than four meters are expected, for which reason the warning also reaches the coast of these two counties.
