The State Meteorological Agency has activated this Saturday, March 28, a red alert for hurricane-force winds for Sunday 29 in the Girona Pyrenees and the Barcelona Pre-Pyrenees, given a forecast of tramontana gusts that can exceed 140 km/h in several points of the Catalan northeast.
The episode will affect with special intensity Alt Empordà and high altitudes of Ripollès, Cerdanya and Berguedà. Additionally, Civil Protection of the Generalitat has updated the alert of the Ventcat plan, which was already activated since the previous day, and has raised the danger level due to a scenario of strong generalized wind in a good part of Catalonia.

Widespread gusts in the northern and eastern half of Catalonia
Civil Protection warns of a Sunday with gusts exceeding 90 km/h in a generalized manner, especially in the northern half and in the east of the territory. The increase in risk is concentrated in the northeast, where the tramontana can blow with more violence.

The Generalitat has also warned of the maritime impact on the Costa Brava, where waves of more than 2.5 meters are expected. For this reason, it has asked the population not to approach areas close to the coast.

Girona activates its municipal emergency plan
In the city of Girona, the City Council has activated the municipal emergency plan for wind in alert phase. The activation entails preventive measures starting from 00:00 hours on Sunday to reduce risks in public thoroughfares and in open spaces.
