A fire declared this Wednesday at noon on a vessel moored in the Blanes marina has forced the activation of the emergency protocol at the central dock of the Sailing Club. The fire has affected a 14-meter yacht and has been extinguished in a short time, without any injuries being reported.
The alert was detected around 12:30 PM in the area furthest from the office and the restaurant of the Sailing Club, when a sailor noticed smoke coming out of one of the boats. From that moment on, a large operation was mobilized to avoid risks in the immediate surroundings.
Emergency deployment at the central pier
In the intervention, various units of the Local Police and Civil Protection of Blanes, the Bombers de la Generalitat, the Mossos d'Esquadra, personnel from the Blanes Sailing Club, and the Captaincy of Ports participated. The area has been cordoned off and the closest boats have been removed to prevent the flames from spreading.
The operation has focused on securing the perimeter and facilitating the work of the emergency teams at a very specific point of the port. The quick response has allowed to control the situation without the fire reaching other moorings.
Damage in the interior of the yacht
The damage has concentrated inside the vessel. The fire has been controlled and extinguished quickly, which has avoided major damage in this area of the marina.
There have been no injured people. Nor are damages recorded in other vessels once the preventive maneuvers to separate them from the fire point were completed.
Causes under verification
The causes of the fire have not been determined and are pending verification, although the possibility that it originated from a short circuit is being worked with. It is for now an unconfirmed hypothesis.
From the Sailing Club, the owner of the yacht has been contacted, a foreign national owner who does not reside in Blanes. The owner has notified the person in charge of maintenance to check the extent of the incident once the intervention of the emergency services has concluded.
