The Girona City Council has activated a plan to comprehensively review all the bridges in the city. The measure affects both main structures and walkways and coverings over the Onyar, Güell, and Ter rivers, in key areas such as Plaça de Catalunya, Santa Eugènia, and Fontajau.
Start of inspections and initial actions
The plan includes a preliminary inspection of all bridges over the next five years with the aim of detecting possible visible pathologies. Tenders have already been initiated to contract technical services to assess the condition of the Bisbe Lorenzana bridge and the d'en Gómez bridge. Furthermore, the drafting of the major repair project for the l'Areny bridge has been awarded to the company Cloud Future SL, for an amount of 13,297.90 euros including VAT.
The prior assessment of the l'Areny bridge determined the need for large-scale intervention. In parallel, the review of the Onyar river's covering as it passes through Plaça de Catalunya has been completed, and the necessary actions will be studied according to the results obtained.
Municipal Plan Calendar and Scope
The planned actions will take place between 2025 and 2029. The plan includes the inspection and possible intervention in infrastructures such as the França bridge, the Alferes Huarte footbridge, the Santa Eugènia covering, the Barca bridge, the Bellaire street covering, the Fontajau bridge, the Olot promenade covering, the Fontajau footbridge, and the Font del Rei bridge.
In the current period, an inventory of all municipal structures will be launched, and an ordinary bridge maintenance service will be established. **Major repairs will be planned for execution within the first five years of the plan**.
