The Darnius Boadella reservoir, located in the Alt Empordà region, has experienced a notable increase in its water reserves over the last four days. The reservoir has gained 12.5 cubic hectometers in this short period, driven by the intense rains that have affected the Salines area and its mountainous surroundings.
The reservoir is close to 77% of its capacity after the storm
According to official data from the Catalan Water Agency corresponding to this Sunday, December 28, the dam holds 48.74 cubic hectometers. **This represents 76.9% of the reservoir's total capacity**. Before the storm, the reservoir was at 56.92%, with 36.3 cubic hectometers stored. The contrast with the situation a year ago is significant. On the same date in 2023, the reservoir barely reached 17.18% of its capacity, with only 10.88 cubic hectometers. This year's improvement also far exceeds the average of the last five years, which was 22.31 cubic hectometers, and the average of the last decade, standing at 28.39 cubic hectometers
Rainfall in Les Salines, Key to Recovery
The increase in the reservoir is attributed to the rainfall recorded in the Serra de Salines mountain range during the recent easterly storm. The main rivers that supplied the reservoir, the Muga and the Arnera, have notably increased their flow in recent days, facilitating the recovery of the stored water level
- The reservoir has gained 12.5 cubic hectometers in just four days
- The current level is the highest in recent years for this time of year
- The average for the last decade is well below the current volume
- The rains in Les Salines have been decisive for this increase
The situation at the Darnius Boadella reservoir contrasts with the drought recorded in previous years and provides relief for the water supply in the area, although monitoring reserves will remain key in the coming months
