The rainstorm hit hard this Monday at noon in the south of La Selva, El Gironès, and the south of Baix Empordà, with impacts concentrated in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Llagostera, Caldes de Malavella, and Castell d'Aro. In Sant Feliu, the City Council suspended afternoon classes shortly before 3:00 PM, and the Generalitat Firefighters responded to dozens of calls in just three hours.

The intensity of the episode left one of the most striking images in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, where local stations exceeded 100 liters per square meter, while at 3:30 PM, Meteocat placed Castell d'Aro as the point with the most accumulated rainfall in Catalonia, with 51.7 liters per square meter. AEMET also activated the red alert on the southern coast of Girona until 6:00 PM.

The Firefighters responded to 34 calls in Sant Feliu in just three hours

Between 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM, the Generalitat Firefighters managed about sixty calls in the area. Of that total, 34 corresponded to Sant Feliu de Guíxols and 10 to Caldes de Malavella.

One of the incidents required the rescue of the occupants of a vehicle trapped by the overflowing of the stream on Cristòfor Colom street in Sant Feliu de Guíxols. The operation ended without injuries.

In the municipality, the orography channeled the water through several streets to the seafront. There were small floods in commercial premises and parking lots, and the water reached the wheels of some vehicles parked in the promenade area.

Water also entered the sports pavilion and the municipal swimming pool, although without notable incidents. Added to this was the accumulation of water on the ground floor of the Sant Feliu de Guíxols City Council due to a problem with the pipes.

Castell d'Aro led the official record while Sant Feliu exceeded 90 liters

In the mid-afternoon, Meteocat placed Castell d'Aro at the forefront of accumulated precipitation in Catalonia with 51.7 liters per square meter. In the same official network, Sant Feliu de Guíxols reached 90.9 liters and Llagostera 62.4.

Further inland, Meteocat measured 20.3 liters in Fornells de la Selva and 12.9 in Cassà de la Selva. In other parts of the country, behind Castell d'Aro were Sant Sadurní d'Anoia with 38.6 liters and Barcelona Observatori Fabra with 33.9.

AEMET maintained the red alert for rain on the southern coast of Girona until 6:00 PM, with the possibility of 90 liters in one hour and specific mention of Sant Feliu de Guíxols. Afterwards, it lowered the level to orange until 10:00 PM, with a threshold of 40 liters in one hour.

In addition, the agency detected efficient shower cells in Llagostera and Caldes de Malavella. In Llagostera, observer Marc Gassó Torrents pointed out that "more than 20 liters had fallen in less than 20 minutes," a reference pending official confirmation.

Outside the hardest-hit area, Olot accumulated 11.1 liters in La Garrotxa, with the most intense period between 4:00 PM and 4:30 PM, and Sant Joan de les Abadesses reached 9.2 liters in El Ripollès.
