10,000 teachers protested in Girona against an agreement that they call 'pacte de la traïció'

The conveners charged against the pact reached with the administration and defined it as a "pact of betrayal". They also maintain that this understanding "falsely closes the conflict", considering that it does not resolve the open discontent in the sector.

Thousands of teachers demonstrated this midday in Girona on the fourth day of strike in the education sector, called in the Girona regions, Vallès and Maresme. The convening unions raised the attendance in the Girona capital to 10,000 people in a protest against the agreement reached between the Department of Education, CCOO and UGT.

The mobilization in Girona was articulated in two columns that departed from two ends of the city and ended up converging in the center. The main point of the protest was the Government Delegation, where the demonstrators gathered and where part of the attendees managed to enter the building.

Rejection of the agreement with Educació

The conveners charged against the pact reached with the administration and defined it as a "pact of betrayal". They also maintain that this understanding "falsely closes the conflict", considering that it does not resolve the discomfort open in the sector.

During the marches through Girona, slogans were heard such as "Enough is enough, raise our salary!" and "Less speeches and more resources", on a day marked by union pressure to keep the pulse alive with the Department.

Marches and protests also in Sabadell

The day also left mobilizations of the teaching staff in Sabadell. Before the start of the marches, there was a cut of the C 58 highway at the height of Sant Quirze. Already in the urban area, there were two routes, one with departure from the Plaça d"Espanya of Sabadell and another from the center of Barberà.

Both columns converged before the Territorial Services of Education in Vallès Occidental, on Gran Via de Sabadell. There, representatives of USTEC, CGT and Intersindical held a meeting with director Montse Capdevila while outside the concentration continued.

During that protest, water balloons and eggs were thrown against the facade of the building. Afterwards, the mobilization moved to the Rambla de Sabadell, where water balloons and eggs were also thrown against the headquarters of UGT and CGT.

Uneven follow-up of the strike

The Department of Education set the follow-up of this fourth day at 30%, with data communicated by 84% of the centers. USTEC, in contrast, raised the participation up to 70%, in a new discrepancy about the real scope of the strike.

This Thursday's has been the fourth day of territorialized protests. For the following day, a mobilization is planned throughout Catalonia with a demonstration in Barcelona, in a conflict that remains open between a part of the teaching staff and the Department.
