Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, chief of staff of the president of the Community of Madrid, declared as investigated for an alleged crime of revelation of secrets. The Provincial Court keeps the case against the high-ranking official open after admitting for processing the lawsuit filed by the PSOE and adhered to by the newspaper EL PAÍS.

The events date back to March 19, 2024, in the Chamberí district. Two reporters from the newspaper were investigating a possible urban planning irregularity in the home of Isabel Díaz Ayuso and her partner when they were identified by National Police agents.

The chain of filtration from security to the cabinet

During the performance, one of the three agents present communicated via internal radio that they had two journalists. Hours later, Ayuso's team distributed a message with the personal data of the reporters. The text accused the professionals of harassing neighbors, including minors, and compared the situation to dictatorships.

Rodríguez acknowledged having disseminated the photograph and the names, although he clarified that he did so in a personal conversation and not through official accounts. Initially, he stated that a neighbor had sent him the image, but he corrected himself upon leaving the courts. He specified that Alberto González Amador, the president's partner, provided it to him, and admitted that he misspoke when citing the original source of the photograph.

"Watch out: I revealed the identity to 18 people. Nothing more" - Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, chief of staff of the president of the Community of Madrid

He denied having obtained the data from the Police and assured that he identified the journalists personally. However, the two reporters and their section chief stood by the lawsuit. They confirmed that the identity was transmitted from the agents present to the president's office.

Urbanistic Background and Political Context

The journalistic investigation originated in August 2022. Alberto González Amador initiated a renovation in Chamberí through a responsible declaration, ignoring two stop-work orders from the Madrid City Council. The Consistory sanctioned the works, but Ayuso's partner judicially annulled the sanction.

They alleged that the City Council used an identical text in both resolutions and ignored the second request. The City Council did not appeal the decision and, in November 2025, the couple acquired the attic that they had already joined with their home. The journalists denied having given cards to minors and clarified that they only gave one to a neighbor about 60 years old.

The witness corroborated that the work was carried out despite municipal orders. Luis Miguel González Morato, director general of Security of the Community of Madrid, denied having had access to the data collected by the police. Rodríguez described the lawsuit as a political maneuver by the PSOE.

The defendant is being charged with the same type of crime for which the former Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz was convicted. He attempted to deny a hoax spread by Rodríguez himself. Isabel Díaz Ayuso is currently on an institutional tour of Mexico.

Rodríguez is scheduled to travel to Mexico this Thursday to meet with the president of the Community of Madrid.
