An algorithm with decision-making power: how far does its influence extend over our rights?

The podcast episode "The Algorithm That Knew Too Much" was released on January 21, 2026. The initiative, driven by the Digital Rights Observatory, aims to bring the debate on digital rights closer to citizens and organizations in Barcelona, Girona, and Tarragona, as well as the rest of the territory.

Participation of Cybersecurity and Digital Law Experts

The episode features Miguel Camacho Collados, Head of Technological Innovation and Cybersecurity at the Council of State, María Aperador Montoya, a criminologist specializing in cybersecurity, and Natalia Martos, CEO and founder of Legal Army. The program is directed and hosted by Txema Valenzuela and features sound production by the La Propagadora team.

Institutional impetus and European funding

"The Algorithm That Knew Too Much" is part of an initiative promoted by the Digital Rights Observatory, which is part of the Hermes Foundation in collaboration with Red.es, an entity attached to the Ministry for Digital Transformation and Public Function. The actions are financed by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan through NextGenerationEU funds.

The Hermes Foundation, active since 2016, maintains its objective of promoting and defending digital rights at the local and state level. The Observatory, integrated into the Digital Rights program, focuses on monitoring, debating, and disseminating these rights within society and among public and private entities.

Legal Framework and Responsibility for Opinions

The episode's publication is carried out under the agreement signed between Red.es and the Hermes Foundation to promote the implementation of the Charter of Digital Rights and the creation of the Digital Rights Observatory. The Digital Rights Observatory emphasizes that the opinions expressed in the podcast are the sole responsibility of those who express them and do not necessarily represent its official stance.

The initiative reinforces the presence of debates on digital rights in Catalonia, with special attention to the protection of citizens in a context of technological transformation and increasing digitalization.
