The Barcelona City Council will open a second Service for Attention, Recovery, and Reception center before the summer on Muntaner street, in the Eixample, to strengthen attention to women, children, and adolescents experiencing gender-based violence. The new facility will join the already operational center in Nou Barris and will coordinate part of its activity with specialized health services from the Hospital Clínic.

The expansion comes after the SARA attended to 1,280 people in 2025, with a concentration of cases in the northern and eastern periphery of the city, while the new facility will be located in a more central area. Raquel Gil, deputy mayor, argued that the choice of Muntaner responds to criteria of "functionality and accessibility."

The new center will incorporate 14 professionals and will cost almost two million

The council will allocate almost two million euros to the adaptation of the space, the execution of the work, and the equipment of the new headquarters. The opening depends on the completion of personnel selection processes and the configuration of the teams.

The staff will grow with 14 new professionals, including social workers, psychologists, educators, jurists, and administrative staff. With this incorporation, the service seeks to reduce the burden of temporary employment and consolidate a structure that currently has 36 people and seven more on interim contracts.

In parallel, the Specialized Service for the Attention of Children and Adolescents will stabilize 21 specialist positions in psychology, pedagogy, social work, education, and administration. The reinforcement affects two parts of the municipal network that intervene with victims and minors.

Nou Barris, Sant Martí, and Horta-Guinardó accounted for half of the cases

During 2025, the SARA attended to 903 women and 342 children and adolescents between zero and 17 years old. Among the registered cases, 256 women and 207 children entered reception facilities, one of the indicators that measures the need for residential protection.

Nou Barris, Sant Martí, and Horta-Guinardó concentrated 50% of the total cases of women attended. The existing center of the service operates precisely in Nou Barris, while the new center in the Eixample will assume attention from a point with direct connection to other city resources.

Gil framed the choice of Muntaner street within the need to improve access to the service and its coordination with the specialized health network. The Hospital Clínic will play a role in this articulation, with which the new facility will work in a coordinated manner.

The reinforcement of staff also affects the SEAIA, which will stabilize 21 specialists in psychology, pedagogy, social work, education, and administration within the municipal care network.
