Barcelona will host from July 5 to 19 the second edition of the Barcelona Arts Summer School, a program that will bring together more than 160 young creators from 45 countries in different facilities in the city with a common thread, interdisciplinary collaboration.

The proposal will reach spaces such as DHub Barcelona, Fabra i Coats, the convent of Sant Agustí, Barcelona XRLAB, Palo Alto, and 42 Barcelona. The paradox of the project lies in its approach, as it is born from a solid academic and institutional structure, but focuses on creative risk and breaking expectations.

Christian Checa defended a program to "play, take risks, and break expectations"

During the presentation at DHub Barcelona, the project director, Christian Checa, defined the summer school as a space for collective experimentation. In his speech, he maintained that at BASS "you come to play, to take risks, and to break expectations, because from BASS only the unexpected can be expected."

Participants will work on collective projects with the mentorship of the artistic duo Lolo & Sosaku, creator and actor Alberto Velasco, stage director Zamira Pasceri, and composer Edurne Arizu.

In addition, the program will include master classes and workshops with filmmaker Erika Lust, choreographer Sol Picó, and musician and journalist Edi Pou. The design combines specialized training with shared work among professionals from different disciplines.

The program will bring projects to Grec and In-Edit open to the public

This year's edition incorporates a collaboration with the Grec and In-Edit festivals, which will exhibit a part of the works created during the school. These exhibitions will be open to the public.

The academic foundation of the program is formed by the Institut del Teatre, ESCAC, and ESMUC, which participate in the educational structure of the initiative. The project is promoted and financed by the Ajuntament de Barcelona, the Departament de Cultura of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and the Ministeri de Cultura.

"Investing in education is always a good decision" - Sergi Casamitjana, director of ESCAC, ESCAC

The organization is carried out by ESCAC, ESMUC, and the Institut del Teatre along with the administrations that finance it. The program's schedule will be concentrated between July 5 and 19 in six venues in Barcelona.
