The Barcelona City Council has awarded the ideas competition to transform the Magòria space, in Sants-Montjuïc, to the Landskrona project, which plans to build a new sports and municipal services complex with 13,500 m2 of built area. The works will begin in January 2028 and the total budget amounts to 36 million euros.

The action comes with an open conflict in the area. While the council defends the maximum use of the plot with new facilities, the platform Jardí de l'Estació la Magòria rejects the plan due to the disappearance of the current garden and the impact that the cleaning center planned in the subsoil may have on noise, odors, and traffic.

The project will bring together sports and municipal services in 13,500 m2

The drafting of the project and the direction of the works will be carried out by the UTE Activitats Arquitectòniques SLP + Barceló Balanzó Arquitectes SLP. The municipal calendar sets the delivery of the preliminary project for September 2026 and places the executive project in the second half of 2027.

After this technical phase, the construction will last three years. The complex will incorporate an 11-a-side football field of 8,000 m2, another for 7-a-side football with 2,300 m2, a pavilion with four courts of 2,500 m2, and 12 covered pétanque courts of 1,700 m2.

The design also includes a central passage that will connect Gran Via with carrer del Corral. This route will function as a shaded area and a social space within the new development.

In the subsoil, a cleaning center of 3,600 m2 and a work center for Parcs i Jardins of 900 m2 will be set up. The City Council maintains that this facility will not be a landfill or a waste center, but a local facility for small electric vehicles.

"Two departments of the City Council are collaborating on this project, which is of significant scale. A sum of efforts to have the necessary budgets and investment, and also the maximum use of space" - Raquel Gil, councilor for Sants-Montjuïc, Barcelona City Council

Neighborhood opposition focuses on the garden and the underground cleaning center

The platform Jardí de l'Estació la Magòria maintains its rejection because the project eliminates the existing garden. The group also warns of the effects that underground activity may generate on the immediate surroundings.

Among the points it questions are the increase in noise, odors, and vehicle movement linked to the cleaning center. The municipal plan provides for differentiated access for users and spectators of the soccer field and reserves an independent pedestrian entrance for the cleaning and Parcs i Jardins spaces from carrer del Corral.

In addition, vehicular access to these services will share an entrance from carrer del Moianès. In the sports section, the project reserves 12 covered petanque courts which will be the first in the state.

"We know there are demands to maintain existing spaces, but the work does not make it compatible, and we have said so from the beginning. But we can work together to design the new green space" - Raquel Gil, councilor of Sants-Montjuïc, Barcelona City Council

The municipal forecast places the start of the works in January 2028 and calculates a three-year execution to complete the transformation of the Magòria space between Gran Via, carrer del Corral, and carrer del Moianès.
