Barcelona has presented the new Urban Strategy of Ciutat Vella with a horizon of 2035 in the Convent dels Àngels.
The plan sets 7 vertical axes, 15 horizontal ones, and 30 territorial areas to reorganize the district.
The roadmap sets 50 actions and changes the map of Ciutat Vella until 2035
The proposal was announced during the second conference of the Pacte per Ciutat Vella, in the auditorium of the Convent dels Àngels. The Barcelona City Council plans a review of urban planning, with special attention to the PERIs approved in the eighties.
The strategy incorporates 50 cross-cutting actions that will result in dozens of concrete projects. It also sets an implementation phase with short, medium, and long-term calendars, while coordinating the work with the Climate Plan, the Live Plan, the Fix Plan, the Neighborhood Plan, and the District Economic Development Plan.
The document includes 7 vertical axes, 15 horizontal ones, and 30 territorial areas that will be reviewed to favor the dynamization of the district.
Among the vertical physical axes are Raval-Universitat-Mar, Passeig de Gràcia-Mar, Girona-Mar, Joan de Borbó, Ciutadella, La Rambla, and Via Laietana. In parallel, the horizontal axes seek to connect the neighborhoods of Ciutat Vella with the rest of Barcelona.
Barcelona Regional participates and the district promotes reforms already confirmed at five points
The development has had the collaboration of Barcelona Regional and has been driven by the Ciutat Vella District, the Chief Architect's Office, and Urban Development. The plan prioritizes the improvement of public space, the increase of green areas, housing rehabilitation, and the improvement of local services.
Among the already confirmed projects are the reform of Pepe Rubianes street, the remodeling of Àngels square, the reorganization of Rambla del Raval, the reform of the Antic Hospital, and the connection of Wellington street with Ciutadella. These are interventions that fit into a roadmap that outlines actions until 2035.

The strategy also orders 30 territorial areas and places the connection between neighborhoods as one of the pieces of the new urban design. The reform of Pepe Rubianes street is among the projects already confirmed within the strategy presented at the Convent dels Àngels and the connection of Wellington street with Ciutadella is part of the planned actions in the roadmap for Ciutat Vella.
