Metzineres will remain in its premises at number 3, Carrer de la Lluna, in the Raval, until September 30 after the cooperative obtained an extension of the rental contract that was due to expire on June 30. The extension avoids the eviction from the space for now, but does not resolve the continuity of the project.

The extension postpones a problem that the entity considers ongoing for three months. The cooperative maintains that, without a stable solution, the same uncertainty will return in September, even though the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Ajuntament de Barcelona recognize its work and the Generalitat has accredited it as a Specialized Intervention Service for gender-based violence.

The extension postpones the risk of closure in the Raval until September

The cooperative, created in 2017, has been demanding a larger and more stable space in the neighborhood from the administrations for years. Its argument is that Barcelona's real estate market is inaccessible for a project like theirs and that continuity cannot be subject to the purchase or rental of a specific property.

In an interview disseminated by the entity, spokespersons for Metzineres summarize the situation with a direct formula. They have bought time, but not a solution, because the underlying problem remains unresolved.

"The solution cannot depend on the market, it has to come from the institutions. We are not defending a specific property. We are defending the continuity of a model and the right to remain in the neighborhood where we have built nine years of community" - sources from Metzineres, cooperative

The eventual closure of the premises from September 30 would have an immediate impact on the daily activity of the space. The entity calculates that it would leave between 40 and 60 women a day in the Raval without attention.

The entity assisted 395 women and provided 11,181 accompaniments

The data from the 2025 Report place the project's reach at 11,181 accompaniments to 395 women. Of that total, 85 came to Metzineres for the first time.

The cooperative links this activity to the need to maintain a stable space in Ciutat Vella. It also maintains that institutional recognition of its work must translate into material conditions that allow for the continuity of the service in the neighborhood.

In parallel, neighborhood support has grown in recent weeks with a neighborhood support campaign that has already surpassed 4,000 signatures. The entity interprets this figure as a sign of support from Raval for a project that it considers rooted in the area.

Metzineres has also called for this social support to be converted into political pressure. To this end, it has called on citizens for May 28 in front of the Ciutat Vella district headquarters, where an extraordinary plenary session on the future of the cooperative is scheduled.

The date set for this extraordinary plenary session is May 28, and the lease extension keeps the premises on carrer de la Lluna open until September 30.
