The patient admitted for a week at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona has tested negative for the second time for hantavirus. Despite this result, the Departament de Salut maintains her quarantine and observation.

The main unknown remains open because the two negative results have not led to the immediate discharge of the Barcelona patient, while the outbreak detected on a cruise ship already totals 10 confirmed cases worldwide by the World Health Organization. Among the 147 passengers on the ship were five Catalans.

Salut maintains isolation in Barcelona despite the second negative result

The patient continues to be admitted to the Clínic under medical supervision. Salut has confirmed that she will remain in quarantine and under observation even though the last two tests have ruled out the presence of the virus for now.

This control is part of the monitoring of passengers linked to the cruise ship where the outbreak originated. Health surveillance affects confirmed cases as well as contacts and evacuated individuals who remain under medical control.

WHO confirms 10 cases and Madrid concentrates the evacuated

In total, the World Health Organization has confirmed 10 cases of hantavirus related to the cruise ship outbreak. The ship was carrying 147 passengers, including five Catalans.

In addition to the monitoring in Barcelona, an infected Spanish citizen remains isolated at the Gómez Ulla Hospital in Madrid, where he is recovering favorably. In the same center, the rest of the citizens evacuated from the cruise ship remain in quarantine.

For its part, the Ministry of Health has ruled out the contagion of an American passenger after a test that was initially inconclusive.
