The Mossos d'Esquadra arrested on May 8 in Horta-Guinardó a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman accused of stealing jewelry valued between 3,600 and 4,000 euros from an 86-year-old neighbor. Both, with previous convictions for property crimes, are being investigated for a theft offense.
The arrest occurred when the suspects were already inside the building and, in the man's case, with several pieces of jewelry in his hands. The sequence began with a call to the victim from a person who posed as gas service personnel and warned her of a 300 euro penalty if she did not allow an inspection at her home.
An undercover police officer saw the woman enter a building in Horta-Guinardó with her face covered
The intervention began with the observation of an undercover Mossos d'Esquadra officer. The policeman saw the woman photographing a block of flats in the district before entering the building with her face covered to facilitate her accomplice's entry.
Following that move, the officers went to the apartment where the victim was. There they caught the two suspects red-handed.
At the time of the operation, the man was carrying several pieces of jewelry in his hands, according to police data. The operation managed to stop the theft inside the home.
The victim received a call about a fake gas inspection and a threat of 300 euros
The 86-year-old woman had previously received a phone call in which a person pretended to be gas service personnel. During that conversation, they told her she would have to pay a 300 euro penalty if she did not allow in whoever came to do the supposed inspection.
That deception was used to gain access to the home and carry out the theft of jewelry. The value of the recovered or seized pieces is between 3,600 and 4,000 euros.
In addition to the age of the detainees, the investigation indicates that both already had previous convictions for property crimes. The arrest of the two suspects took place on May 8 in the Horta-Guinardó district, inside the same apartment of the 86-year-old victim.
