Terrassa has activated this Friday the Municipal Emergency Plan for flood risk in anticipation of heavy rains during the afternoon. The alert coincides with the activation of INUNCAT in Alert phase by the Operational Coordination Center of Catalonia, in a time frame that also affects the entire region and almost all of the Catalan coast and pre-coast.

The tension of the episode is in the intensity foreseen in very little time. The Meteorological Service of Catalonia places the risk between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM and foresees that the threshold of 20 l/m2 can be exceeded in 30 minutes, a combination that raises the danger in sensitive urban areas and in floodable passages.

The Meteocat forecasts more than 20 l/m2 in 30 minutes between 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM

The weather forecast points to heavy showers throughout the afternoon. In addition to rain, the episode may be accompanied by thunderstorms and, locally, by hail or sleet and some strong gusts of wind.

The risk is considered high in Terrassa and in the entire region. The impact, moreover, is not limited to Vallès Occidental, as the warning reaches almost the entire coast and pre-coast of Catalonia.

Terrassa activates the municipal plan and asks to move cars away from flood-prone areas

With that scenario, the mayor has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan for flood risk. The measure is adopted while Civil Protection maintains the INUNCAT alert due to the forecast of intense rainfall in a six-hour window.

Civil Protection has transferred several preventive recommendations for homes and travel. Among them are keeping downspouts and drains clean and avoiding going down to basements when the rain episode begins.

It also asks not to cross streams, torrents, or underpasses, one of the most dangerous points when the intensity of precipitation rises in a few minutes.

In the case of vehicles, the recommendation is clear and concrete, as it is requested not to park in the vicinity of areas with a high risk of flooding while the episode foreseen for this afternoon lasts.
