The Plenary of the Regional Council of Vallès Occidental approved an institutional declaration of support for the staff of the Ficosa plant in Viladecavalls following the announcement made by the company's management in April 2026, when the company's continuity with its current workforce was called into question. The measure could affect 172 jobs.

The declaration was passed with the support of all regional groups, except for the abstention of the PP. The agreement highlights a paradox for the region, as institutional support comes after the company has cast doubt on the continuity of a plant on which local employment depends, given that the majority of workers reside in Vallès Occidental.

The Plenary called for investments to maintain activity in Viladecavalls

During the session, the councilor for Economic Development and Labor, Javi Garcia, read the institutional declaration approved by the regional plenary. The text establishes the support of the Regional Council for the Ficosa staff in Viladecavalls.

The regional body asked the company's management to adopt the necessary measures and investments to guarantee the continuity of activity and jobs in the region. The request links the plant's situation to the direct labor impact on residents of Vallès Occidental.

The Council asked the Generalitat to activate the National Pact for Industry

In addition to addressing the company, the plenary conveyed its request to the Generalitat de Catalunya through the Department of Business and Labor. The objective is for it to implement the National Pact for Industry and the necessary policies to ensure the continuity of the plant and the region's industrial fabric.

The declaration approved by the Regional Council also frames this position within its commitment to reindustrialization and economic development. This institutional support is situated within the Industry Horizon 2030 Strategy and the National Pact for Industry 2026-2030.

The regional agreement comes after Ficosa's management proposed a scenario in April 2026 that questions the company's continuity with its current workforce and could put 172 jobs at the Viladecavalls plant at risk.
