Terrassa will advance the opening of the Vallparadís swimming pool this year, which will begin operating on Monday, June 8, only in the afternoon, more than two weeks before the usual date. The rest of the municipal swimming pools will open in the morning and afternoon from June 20 to August 30 as part of the municipal plan to deal with heatwaves.
The advancement of the bathing season coincides with an unusual limitation in the network of thermal relief spaces. The Anella Verda will not be able to be used as a climate shelter due to restrictions related to swine fever, so the city council is reinforcing coverage with new urban facilities and more shade in squares, markets, and public centers.
Terrassa adds 56 climate shelters and excludes the Anella Verda
Mayor Jordi Ballart presented the plan at BD2 alongside representatives from Civil Protection, Municipal Police, Rural Agents, Red Cross, and the ADF. The campaign incorporates three new climate shelters at the Casal de Can Parellada, the Mercat de Sant Pere, and the Sala Muncunill, bringing the total for the city to 56.
In addition, the council will expand the shaded areas in Mercadal and set up a tent there as a shelter and rest point. It will also install awnings in six spaces, with a new structure in Plaça Lluís Companys and the renovation of the one in Torre del Palau, where it will add a fountain.
In parallel, the city council will deploy misting fans in Plaça Nova, Plaça del Progrés, Plaça del Primer de Maig, and Federico García Lorca, as well as in Parc de Sant Jordi and Torrent de les Bruixes.
The city planted 600 trees and will install 600 fans between June and September
The municipal strategy to reduce the impact of heat includes more trees and actions in facilities. The city council has already planted 600 trees in various parts of the city and plans to add another 500 in Parc de la República.
Between June and September, it will also install 600 fans in classrooms and other school spaces. This intervention coincides with the reinforcement of shaded areas in various everyday use points, with special attention to squares and areas of prolonged stay.
The forest device maintains 29 kilometers of paths and prohibits making fires from June 15
The municipal campaign includes fire prevention measures due to rising temperatures and the proximity of summer festivals. The teams have carried out maintenance work on 29 kilometers of forest paths and on several strips of Can Palet de Vista Alegre, Les Martines, Can Gonteres, El Molinot, and Pinetons.
From June 15 to September 15, it will be forbidden to light fires within 500 meters of forest areas. Nine out of ten forest fires are of human origin, so the municipal device asks for extreme caution during Sant Joan and Sant Pere.
The Vallparadís swimming pool will operate exclusively in the afternoon from Monday, June 8, while the rest of the municipal facilities will open in a double daily shift from June 20 to August 30.
