A part of the roof of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa suddenly collapsed this Sunday in the rear area of the building, shortly before seven in the morning. The Municipal Police were the first to arrive at the premises and, at 7:12 AM, the Bombers de la Generalitat received the alert and mobilized four units.
The incident occurred in a building under construction, but a subsequent inspection confirmed that no one was inside at the time of the collapse. The City Council provisionally points to the possible collapse of a wooden beam as the cause of the collapse.
Bombers Mobilized Four Units After the 7:12 AM Alert
When the emergency teams accessed the building, technicians confirmed that the collapse affected the rear part of the building. The initial intervention ruled out personal injuries as there were no occupants inside.
In addition to securing the perimeter, the City Council ordered the water and electricity supply to be cut off as a preventive measure. They also activated the municipal architect to assess the condition of the building after the collapse.
During the inspection of the surrounding area, technicians concluded that there is no risk to adjacent buildings or to the main entrance of the premises. Nevertheless, the council recommended that residents of some adjoining terraces not access those areas while the zone remains secured.
City Council Attributes Collapse to Possible Failure of a Wooden Beam
Initial checks place the origin of the incident in a possible wooden beam that may have given way at a time when the building had been undergoing renovation work for weeks. This hypothesis will need to be confirmed with a more detailed review of the structure and the work carried out.
As a precaution, workers have sealed off the rear part of the building affected by the collapse. The restriction is concentrated on the damaged section and does not affect the main entrance of the Centre Excursionista de Terrassa.
In the coming hours, the City Council will hold a meeting with the technical team responsible for the works to analyze the exact causes of the collapse and determine the immediate actions to be taken on the affected part of the building.
