The Terrassa Municipal Police will incorporate a speed camera to control the speed of personal mobility vehicles, detect inappropriate behavior, and identify tampered or non-homologated scooters. The announcement was made this Wednesday in a meeting of the Municipal Security Council held at Qu4drant, with the participation of the Municipal Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, Protecció Civil, and Bombers de Terrassa.

The decision comes after a joint campaign with the Servei Català de Trànsit in which officers issued 118 citations last week to VMP and cyclist riders. The contrast lies in the volume of sanctions detected in just a few days and the fact that the city council is taking a further step in control with a specific device to measure the speed of these vehicles.

The campaign resulted in 114 sanctions for VMPs and four for cyclists

Of the total citations, 114 were issued to users of personal mobility vehicles and the other four to cyclists. The operation focused on infractions related to circulation as well as distraction or improper use of the vehicle.

The highest number was for those riding on the sidewalk, with 32 citations for invading pedestrian spaces. Added to this were 26 sanctions for risky driving and 22 for carrying more than one person on the vehicle.

In addition, officers issued 11 citations for lacking mandatory insurance and another 11 for using a mobile phone while driving. There were also 10 sanctions for using headphones and two more for riding a VMP without having reached the minimum legal age.

Terrassa will use the radar to measure speed and detect tampered scooters

The new speed camera will be used to measure the speed of VMPs and reinforce the detection of altered or non-homologated vehicles. The announcement was made within the framework of the Municipal Security Council, the body where police forces and emergency services of the city meet.

During that meeting at Qu4drant, the Municipal Police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, Protecció Civil, and Bombers de Terrassa participated. The city council links the incorporation of this tool to the control of inappropriate behavior detected on public roads.

The only sanctions issued to cyclists were four and were for distractions and risky driving during the campaign carried out last week with the Servei Català de Trànsit.
