The Guàrdia Civil and the Municipal Police of Terrassa seized 4,045 counterfeit items during a joint operation carried out on April 29 in the Mercadal de Martí l'Humà. The estimated value of the seized merchandise amounts to 441,746 euros.
The agents identified twelve people and four vehicles used for the illegal transport of these products. The inspection focused on six sales stalls, five of which offered imitations of protected commercial brands.
Five investigated for crimes against industrial property
The authorities are investigating five individuals as alleged perpetrators of crimes against industrial property. In addition, the Municipal Police of Terrassa imposed three administrative sanctions for sales without municipal authorization and irregularities in the ownership of the stalls.
"these types of operations will continue to be carried out periodically. They will be done in coordination between the different security forces present in the city, with the aim of guaranteeing safe, regulated, and quality commercial spaces for everyone" - Xavier Cardona, Councilor for Security, Terrassa City Council
The council has proposed the withdrawal of the license from three market stalls. Two of them lacked sales authorization and the third was selling counterfeit products.
A second operation seizes 188 items in May
Institutional pressure on the street market did not cease after the first intervention. On May 6, the Local Police and the municipal service of Commerce and Markets carried out a new inspection in the same facilities.
This second action resulted in three additional complaints and the seizure of 188 irregular items. Security forces maintain surveillance to prevent recidivism in these illegal practices within the fairgrounds.
