Terrassa has placed its gross disposable family income per inhabitant at 19,895 euros during the 2023 fiscal year, an indicator that consolidates the municipality's economic recovery although it reveals certain particularities in its recent evolution.

The data provided by Idescat confirm that this figure represented an increase of 1,177 euros compared to 2022, which is equivalent to a rise of 5.9%. Terrassa maintains an upward trend since 2021 after the fall caused by the pandemic, thus reaching the highest value in the recent historical series.

Relative distance from the regional average

Despite the absolute growth, the city is experiencing a loss of relative pace compared to the Catalan environment. In 2023, the income per inhabitant in Terrassa represented 95.7% of the Catalan average, a percentage lower than the 97.7% recorded in 2022.

This divergence was already partially manifesting in the state comparison, where Terrassa reached 98.2% of the average in 2022 compared to 2021. The general context in Catalonia shows a more pronounced rebound with a gross disposable family income per inhabitant of 20,789 euros in 2023. This result implies an increase of 1,628 euros compared to the previous year and represents a growth of 8.5%, favored by the rise observed in most municipalities.

Leadership of the Vallès Occidental region

Within the regional scope, Vallès Occidental stands out for being above both Terrassa and the Catalan average. The region registered a gross disposable household income per inhabitant of 21,314 euros in 2023, consolidating itself as the second area with the greatest economic capacity.

El Barcelonès heads the ranking with 23,632 euros, followed by other regions with outstanding incomes.

  • El Vallès Occidental completes the top two with 21,314 euros.
  • La Baix Llobregat adds 21,188 euros.
  • Garraf registers 20,950 euros.
  • Maresme closes the group with 20,916 euros.

Weight of wage income and tax structure

Regarding the composition of income, wage income constitutes the main source of resources for Terrassa families. This concept represents 62.5% of the total, a proportion higher than the Catalan average, which stands at 60.8%.

The gross operating surplus contributes 16.6% to the local domestic economy. Social benefits, which include pensions, unemployment benefits, and other public aid, represent 20.9% of income, a figure slightly above the regional average of 20.4%.

The distribution between fiscal obligations and social security shows that 61.9% of income is allocated to social contributions. The remaining portion amounts to 38.1% corresponding to taxes, closing the economic balance of the household in the city.
