La Perfumeria Marfil will close its doors on June 30th on carrer dels Gavatxons, in the city center, after more than eighty years of activity. The closure comes due to the retirement of its current owners, sisters Mireia and Núria Llonch.
The end of the business closes a family chain that had passed from generation to generation since 1941. The store, born in the midst of the post-war period and maintained for decades on the same commercial axis, disappears not due to a crisis of the establishment, but due to the retirement of those who have managed it in its final stage.
The store opened in 1941 with its own laboratory in the basement
The origin of the perfumery dates back to 1941, when chemist Miquel Massanès founded the establishment on carrer dels Gavatxons. The business started with an unusual formula for the time, as it had its own laboratory in the basement.
From that space, it manufactured and sold its products in bulk, an activity linked to the original model of the store. That start marked the identity of a business that has maintained its activity for more than eight decades in the urban center.
Mireia and Núria Llonch highlight close customer relationships as keys to continuity
Over the years, the perfumery remained in the family's hands until reaching the current stage of Mireia and Núria Llonch. Both explain that one of the keys to the establishment's journey has been the relationship maintained with customers.
"One of the keys to success has always been the close relationship with customers" - Mireia and Núria Llonch, owners of Perfumeria Marfil
That bond has accompanied a business that has survived several generations before its definitive closure. The retirement of the two sisters will put an end to that family continuity at the end of June.
The date set for the definitive closure of Perfumeria Marfil is June 30th.
