Terrassa says goodbye to Joan Antoni Pujals i Vallhonrat, who passed away at the age of 100, a piece of news that became known this Saturday. The textile businessman and former deputy mayor was also a figure linked for decades to some of the city's main economic and social institutions.
His career brought together unusual fields in a single person. Pujals worked in business, urban property representation, municipal life, and the preservation of local memory, with a sustained role in institutions in Terrassa and its region.
Pujals held key positions in the City Council and Terrassa's business fabric
Between 1964 and 1971, he served as deputy mayor of the Terrassa City Council. In parallel, he developed a long career in the textile sector, from where he also assumed responsibilities at the Institut Industrial de Terrassa.
There he held the positions of general secretary and president. His connection with the local economic fabric was completed with the presidency of the Cambra de la Propietat Urbana de Terrassa i Comarca and the Fundació Busquets.
In addition to this institutional activity, he acted as a local chronicler and historian. A large part of this work focused on documenting the history of the city's institutions, a task that linked his figure to the collective memory of Terrassa.
Terrassa awarded him the recognition of Terrassenc de l'Any in 1997
The city recognized this career in 1997, when he received the distinction of Terrassenc de l'Any in 1997. The award placed his business, institutional, and cultural contributions on the same level.
More recently, Pujals reviewed part of his life journey in an interview with Quico Simó on the program El quarto de reixa on Canal Terrassa, broadcast in 2018.
The farewell ceremony for Joan Antoni Pujals i Vallhonrat will take place this Monday at 12:00 PM in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.
