The Institut Terrassa will receive 60,000 euros to develop a project for the reuse and utilization of surplus Canary Islands bananas. The initiative, named Canary Banana Project, has been selected by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education within the framework of the Erasmus+ program.

The funding reaches a center in Terrassa with a proposal focused on addressing a specific food surplus and it does so on the first occasion that the institute's chemistry department presents a project of this nature. The same department has not only managed to get the application approved but also to obtain funds to execute it.

The chemistry department coordinates a project with two institutes in Naples and Turkey

The Canary Banana Project is led and coordinated by the chemistry department of Institut Terrassa. Two institutes, one in Naples and another in Turkey, are also collaborating on the work.

The proposal was chosen for its quality within the Erasmus+ program. This selection opens a funding stream of 60,000 euros to promote the utilization of surplus Canary Islands bananas from the educational field.

The initiative began this academic year and will end next year

The project has a duration of two academic years. It started this year and its completion is scheduled for next year.

Within this timeline, the center will develop the initiative over two academic years with the financial support granted after the SEPIE resolution. International collaboration is part of the structure with which the institute will approach the work.

Until now, the chemistry department had not obtained funding for an initiative of this type at Institut Terrassa. The selected program thus marks the center's first precedent in this project format.
