Metges de Catalunya has called for this Monday, April 27, the tenth day of strike for the medical staff of the Catalan health system. The strike will affect the public and concerted sector and is scheduled from 8:00 AM until the same time the following day.

The call comes after months of conflict open since October and also coincides with the four-day national strike of doctors, raised by the clash with the Ministry of Health around the framework statute of the healthcare collective.

Demonstration from Sant Pau to the Sagrada Família

During the strike day, the union has called a demonstration in Barcelona. The march will start at 10:30 hours at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and will end in front of the basilica of the Sagrada Família.

Metges de Catalunya maintains that the Departament de Salut has not yet agreed to negotiate any of its demands. The organization criticizes the administration for a strategy oriented, in its opinion, to dilute the voice of medical and faculty staff within the set of trade union organizations.

The union also questions that spaces such as a new working group are promoted to address the reform of the medical on-call model, in which it considers that it remains as just another interlocutor when, it understands, it should assume a central role.

Criticism for the lack of negotiation

The organization also recalls that a specific dialogue framework already exists, the medical table that emerged from the 2023 strike, and regrets that Salut is not using it. For the union, this situation evidences a lack of real will for negotiation.

In parallel, the Departament d"Empresa i Treball has set minimum services for the different areas of healthcare. In the urgent care of the CUAP, the PAC and the PADES, the service will be 25% of the staff.

The rest of non-urgent services will operate with the same regime as a holiday, except for those in which the staff is not usually reduced. In those cases, the established minimum will be 50%.

What services will be maintained normally

Emergencies, care for admitted patients, special units such as ICUs, radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatments, and unavoidable surgical activity will function normally. This Monday, the day will once again measure the open tension between the medical collective and the health administration in Catalonia, with a new 24-hour strike and a mobilization in the heart of Barcelona's hospital axis.
