The Local Government Board of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat has approved the call for an ideas competition to design the new headquarters of the Guàrdia Urbana, a facility that will share premises with the Policia Nacional. The building will be erected on Pau Casals Avenue, at the height of Carrilet Avenue, and will have an approximate built area of 10,000 square meters.
The decision comes as the current police station on Migdia Street suffers from space limitations for both police work and citizen services. The new project seeks to address this deficiency with a single headquarters designed to improve coordination between the two forces in the city.
The new police station will share headquarters with the Policia Nacional
The ideas competition will serve to define the future police building in a strategic location in L'Hospitalet. The municipal plan is to concentrate the Guàrdia Urbana and the Policia Nacional in these facilities, with the aim of strengthening operational coordination.
David Quirós, mayor of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, framed the approval of the competition within the commitment made by the municipal government. The mayor maintained that the call represents a new step towards fulfilling that commitment to the citizens and the Guàrdia Urbana.
"The future facility will allow us to respond to current and future security needs, with more modern, accessible, and functional facilities" - David Quirós, mayor of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat
The jury will evaluate functionality and operational adaptation
The selection process will be organized in two phases. A specialized jury will examine the quality of the proposals and their suitability for the daily operational needs of the police forces.
Among the criteria set by the city council are the functionality of the spaces, innovation, sustainability, and the capacity for adaptation to operational needs. The future headquarters will have an approximate built area of 10,000 square meters.
Currently, the police station on Migdia Street has space problems on two fronts. The council points out that these limitations affect both the internal work of the local police and the services provided to citizens.
In a second assessment of the project, David Quirós stated that the approval of the ideas competition takes a new step within the commitment made by the local executive. The chosen location is on Pau Casals avenue, at the height of Carrilet avenue.
