The Mossos d'Esquadra and the Guàrdia Urbana carried out a joint operation to control scooters in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, with a focus on crime prevention. The operation was deployed in Plaça de la Mare de Déu del Pilar, in the Pubilla Cases neighborhood.
The intervention stems from a statistic that has placed these vehicles at the center of police surveillance in the municipality. Half of violent robberies are committed using a scooter, and Pubilla Cases, along with the areas around the Torrassa metro station, account for 40% of these assaults in the city.
The control was deployed in Pubilla Cases due to the concentration of violent robberies
The location chosen for the operation was not coincidental. Plaça de la Mare de Déu del Pilar is part of one of the areas that most concern law enforcement agencies due to its weight in the statistics of violent robberies in L'Hospitalet.
In addition to Pubilla Cases, the areas around the Torrassa metro station appear on the same incidence map. Between both areas, they account for four out of every 10 violent robberies registered in the municipality.
The operation identified 12 people and impounded two scooters
During the operation, officers identified 12 people. The action also resulted in the impounding of two scooters.
In both cases, the riders were reported for not having insurance and for driving vehicles that could exceed the speed limit. The operation is part of a control strategy linked to both road safety and the prevention of crimes committed with this mode of transport.
The Mossos d'Esquadra and Guàrdia Urbana plan to repeat these types of controls periodically in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.
