The subsidized school Sanfeliu of L'Hospitalet, in the Sanfeliu neighborhood, will finally avoid closure at the end of this school year and will become part of the public network. The agreement, announced by mayor David Quirós, comes after weeks of concern among the families and staff of the center given the possibility that the activity would cease in June.

The decision clears one of the main concerns of the educational community, which mobilized to demand a solution. Protests by staff and families reached the doors of the Ministry of Education, while a three-way negotiation was opened with the participation of families, teachers, the Generalitat, and the City Council.

Relocation in the old Joanot Martorell

The agreed solution involves moving the Sanfeliu school to the old Joanot Martorell building. The new location is on the Canyet stream, next to the current Ausià March school, within the same neighborhood environment.

The council defends that this relocation will allow the student body to continue their schooling without leaving Sanfeliu or breaking their daily bond with the community. That continuity in the neighborhood was one of the central demands made by families during the process.

Jobs to get to September

Technicians from the Ministry of Education have already visited the facilities of the former Joanot Martorell to assess what adaptation work will be necessary. The goal is for everything to be ready for the start of the next academic year, in September.

The operation must be finalized in the coming months to adapt the building to the needs of the center and allow the transfer on time. For now, the involved administrations are working with that calendar so that the incorporation into the public network can be done without interrupting teaching activity.

The situation of the teaching staff

The Generalitat has also expressed its willingness for the teachers of the Sanfeliu school to join the public network. Even so, that transition is not closed and the educational administration has specified that it will have to be studied on an individual basis, case by case.

With this agreement, the continuity of the educational project is on track and the focus now shifts to the preparations for the move and the formula that will allow the integration of the teaching staff into the public network before the start of the next academic year.
