The Urban Guard of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat has arrested a man for the theft of metal pipes in the Santa Eulàlia Market area, after locating him during a special plainclothes surveillance service.
The arrest comes after several previous robberies in the same market with a similar modus operandi, a pattern that has fueled discontent among vendors because the police reinforcement was activated precisely at a point where thefts had already been repeated.
The suspect fled and tried to hide on the roof of the stalls
A district unit detected the alleged perpetrator while patrolling in plainclothes in the market's surroundings. When he noticed the presence of the agents, the man ran off and tried to hide on the roof of the sales stalls.
The agents ended up arresting him in the Santa Eulàlia Market area. For now, the police action focuses on the theft of metal pipes.
The Urban Guard is investigating if the arrested man is linked to other robberies
The investigation will now have to clarify if the detainee is also related to other robberies committed with a similar procedure in the same commercial facility in Santa Eulàlia.
In parallel, vendors have expressed their protests and are demanding more security measures from the L'Hospitalet City Council in and around the market.
The detail that remains under investigation is the possible connection of the arrested man with previous robberies committed in the Santa Eulàlia Market with a similar modus operandi.
