The Bellvitge University Hospital has launched ASMApèdia, a dissemination channel on WhatsApp with which it will offer information and advice on asthma to patients and users. The service is reviewed by the multidisciplinary team of the center's Asthma Unit and will disseminate content on a weekly basis.
The initiative was presented on May 5, coinciding with World Asthma Day, with a format that transfers the informative monitoring of a chronic disease of high prevalence to a messaging application. The hospital directs it to a pathology that affects around 5% of the adult population and that, without timely diagnosis or treatment, can lead to serious complications.
Bellvitge will disseminate weekly tips on a disease that affects 5% of adults
ASMApèdia is born as a dissemination channel within WhatsApp to bring practical information about asthma closer. The Bellvitge Hospital has indicated that the content will be validated and reviewed by specialists from its Asthma Unit.
The disease is characterized by inflammation of the airways. During crises, it reduces the ability to breathe due to muscle spasms, inflammation, and mucus buildup.
The health center frames the initiative within the need to improve the information available to those who live with this pathology. In that context, the channel will publish tips and other content every week to resolve common doubts about the disease.
The hospital presented ASMApèdia on May 5 with spirometries and indications on inhalers
During the day of May 5, the hospital organized activities related to World Asthma Day. Users who wanted to participate could have spirometries done at the center itself.
In addition, hospital professionals offered practical advice for correctly using different models of inhalers. The session also included recommendations for living with a chronic illness that can affect quality of life.
The presentation of ASMApèdia coincided with these awareness and care actions, focused on providing self-care tools and on remembering the importance of detecting asthma and treating it in a timely manner.
On that same day, May 5, L'Hospital Universitari de Bellvitge performed spirometries on users who wished to and offered practical instructions on the correct use of different models of inhalers.
