The Guàrdia Urbana of L'Hospitalet de Llobregat arrested on Wednesday morning a man accused of stealing several meters of metal pipe from the Mercat de Santa Eulàlia. The arrest came after several days of special surveillance with plainclothes officers in the vicinity of the municipal facility.
The case once again places the Mercat de Santa Eulàlia in the police spotlight a few months after another arrest in the same premises, then for the theft of air conditioning units. The repetition of arrests in the same market in such a short time focuses attention on a facility that had already suffered another similar episode.
The suspect tried to flee and ended up hiding on the market roof
When he detected the presence of the agents, the detainee tried to escape. The pursuit ended on the roof of the Mercat de Santa Eulàlia, where the police intercepted him before taking him to the police station.
The operation was part of a specific operation deployed by the Guàrdia Urbana in the market's surroundings. For several days, plainclothes officers carried out surveillance in the area until they located the alleged perpetrator of the theft of the metal pipe.
Another arrest for a robbery in the same Mercat de Santa Eulàlia arrived a few months ago
The closest precedent also occurred in the same Santa Eulàlia facility. A few months ago, officers already arrested another person there for the theft of air conditioning units.
Both episodes affect the same market in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, although with different materials and in separate operations. In the latest operation, the police intervention ended when the agents located the suspect hidden on the roof of the premises.
