The Generalitat will deploy plainclothes mossos d'Esquadra in high schools in L"Hospitalet de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, Vic, Sabadell and Lleida as part of a pilot test that will start this third trimester, before the end of the school year. The agents will not carry weapons and will be stably present in the centers included in the plan.
The measure is part of the Comprehensive Plan for Safety and Well-being in the educational environment, EDUSEG, designed in response to the growing concern of teachers and the Administration over violent incidents recorded in the school environment.
Stable presence and coordination with the directions
The mossos will have their own space in the institutes and will work coordinated with the management teams. The plan has already been communicated to the involved educational centers and it is foreseen that during the coming weeks it will be detailed to the rest of the educational community.
The function assigned to these agents will be mainly preventive and of mediation in situations of violence or conflict. They will also participate in specific educational programs. The objective is to guarantee the safety of all and reduce cases of violence through prevention, mediation and intervention tasks when necessary.
Incidents between students, teachers and families
From the Conselleria it is pointed out that violent situations are occurring among students, between students and teachers, and also between families and teachers. These episodes, furthermore, occur both in person and through social media.
The pilot test will be developed in the educational zones of L"Hospitalet de Llobregat, Vic, Alta Ribargorça Val d"Aran and Tàrrega, in addition to El Prat de Llobregat and Sabadell. The forecast is to evaluate the functioning of the device in the coming months.
Possible expansion if it works
If the results are positive, the Generalitat is studying extending the initiative to more centers and incorporating this police figure as support in the educational field. The deployment, planned without weapons and with a preventive approach, seeks to consolidate itself as a support tool in environments where conflict has been gaining weight in recent times.
