The Espai Segur Radar device is now operational at the city's main festivals with the aim of detecting and preventing situations of violence and harassment, as well as activating care protocols when necessary. Agents of Civisme, night facilitation staff, purple points, police forces, and emergency services are participating in the operation.
The main novelty is that the prevention network is not limited to police intervention or a formal complaint. Anyone who witnesses or experiences a situation of harassment or violence can also approach the teams deployed on the street to activate the referral to the appropriate resource.
The device allows cases to be referred to Mossos d'Esquadra or Guàrdia Urbana
Paula, a Civisme agent, explained that any citizen can now go to this service if they witness or experience any type of harassment or violence. The measure expands the contact points during the celebrations and distributes the initial care among various profiles present in the festive space.
Tirso, also a Civisme agent, detailed that the team works in coordination with night leisure facilitators and purple points. When someone is in trouble, agents can refer them to Mossos d'Esquadra, Guàrdia Urbana, or the most appropriate resource.
The deployment also includes night facilitators Ariadna Sánchez Ferrando and Selma Macho Erreddah. Their work focuses on detecting and preventing risk situations, promoting civic and responsible nightlife, and mediating in conflicts that may arise during the night.
Ariadna Sánchez Ferrando specified that if they detect a conflict, they transfer it to the team best equipped to handle the situation. This filtering and support function aims to intervene before the problem escalates.
The team also monitors parks and acted in a fire at Tecla Sala
Outside of areas with a high concentration of people, night facilitation staff patrol parks and green areas to inform about regulations on alcohol consumption in public spaces and to remind people of cleaning and safety guidelines.
During these rounds, Ariadna Sánchez Ferrando explained that the team insists on keeping the space clean, avoiding excessive noise, and collecting cans and bottles. She also emphasized the importance of throwing glass into the bin to avoid risks, especially for children.
According to Selma Macho Erreddah, the public's usual response is positive when instructions are clearly explained. During the Spring Festivals, the team also intervened in a fire on Tecla Sala street and collaborated to keep people away from the area while the Guàrdia Urbana and Bombers de la Generalitat were operating.
The Purple Point adds attention to victims and awareness actions
The Purple Point, managed by the ARA association, has two tents. One is dedicated to attending to, informing, and accompanying potential victims of sexist violence, and the other is dedicated to awareness-raising tasks through games about gender stereotypes and a panel with stickers about frequent aggressions.
Clara del Hoyo Corral, a member of ARA and coordinator of the Purple Point, stated that the presence of this resource makes many women feel safer during the festivals. She also emphasized that knowing there is a place to go in case of need makes it easier to ask for help.
After its launch at the Sant Josep main festival, the device will be repeated at the rest of the city's main festivals with the participation of the Guàrdia Urbana, Mossos d'Esquadra, other police forces, and the emergency service.
