A fire in a construction zone at the confluence of Conca de Tremp street with Alcalde de Zalamea street, in the neighborhood of El Carmel, forced early this morning to cut off electricity, water, and gas supplies in the immediate vicinity. The fire broke out around 01:45 this Friday and was extinguished by the Firefighters.
The origin of the fire is located in a gas leak detected in a trench through which various services pass. At that point, water channeling works were being carried out. The exact causes of what happened remain under investigation.
Evacuation of neighbors from the closest building
Five people from the property closest to the flames were evacuated and spent the night in relatives' homes. From the City Council, it was clarified that the departure of these residents occurred due to being left without supplies in the property affected by the incident.
Residents of the area explained that the flames reached a height equivalent to a third floor of the nearby properties, in an episode that generated alarm in the middle of the night at this point in the upper part of Barcelona.
Restoration of services during the morning
The incident left the affected area without electricity, water, and gas for several hours. The supplies were restored in the morning, once the situation was controlled after the intervention of the emergency teams.
The incident occurred at a point with open works for canalization works and now it will be the investigation that must specify how the fire was triggered in the trench and what circumstances surrounded the gas leak that ended up causing the fire.
